3:57 - Introduction to our Speaker Amol Kapoor
6:33 - Machine Learning Basics - all ML models have features, embeddings and losses
8:13 - Neural Networks - understanding neurons, training and inference
11:07 - Embeddings - a vector representation of data to place “concepts” into “geometric spaces” and then do embedding math on concepts
14:17 - Neural Networks are Geometry Generators
15:44 - AI Model: CLIP - tie images and text together (by creating an embedding spaces where images an descriptive text are neighbors) to classify images and perform guided image generation
18:41 - AI Model: Stable Diffusion (August 2022) - train a model to predict how to remove each step of noise from an image (based on an embedding space where images and noisy images are next to each other)
21:02 - AI Model: NeRF - predict new views of a 3-dimensional scene given previous views of that scene - Neural Radiance Fields
26:11 - AI Model: GPT (June 2020) - large language model (LLM) to generate language by predicting the next word
38:04 - How Entrepreneurs can use AI - You can integrate AI into your startup’s product at 4 different levels of depth
42:45 - Programming by Prompt - One of Amol’s favorite topics: prompt engineering and taking it to the next level
Original Event Invite for June 28 public event
On Wednesday, June 28, Ubiquity held a public event to share how AI really works under the hood.
This wide ranging talk covered the basics of deep neural networks, a deep dive into 3 prominent models (ChatGPT, CLIP, and Stable Diffusion), and a discussion on how entrepreneurs can make the most of these technologies. Come away with an intuition for AI from the ground up -- no prior technical experience required!
UXT member Amol Kapoor, who has been working with AI tools for nearly a decade, will lead this 1 hour Zoom session.
About Amol Kapoor
Ubiquity Extended Team member Amol Kapoor is the CTO and cofounder of SOOT, a start up focused on leveraging AI to rethink file management. Before that, Amol was at Google Research doing early work on graph neural networks; and before that, he was studying connectomics at Columbia. Amol is fascinated by representation learning and generative AI, and the mechanics by which neural nets store, manipulate, and present information. More at www.amolkapoor.com
Ubiquity Ventures — led by Sunil Nagaraj — is a seed-stage venture capital firm focused on startups solving real-world physical problems with "software beyond the screen", often using smart hardware or machine learning.
